Description
Thallus saxicolous, crustose, rimose areolate, subeffigurate, yellow-orange to orange-red, K+ purple. Apothecia numerous, at the centre of areole, sunken, solitary, rarely 2 – 3 confluent; margin slightly rising above the areole, biatorine, concolours with the thallus; disc darker than the thallus. Exciple with algal cells, 35 – 43 µm thick; epihymenium golden brown, K+ purple, 11 – 19 µm thick; hymenium hyaline, 28 – 42 µm thick, hypothecium hyaline, 27 – 48 µm thick; paraphyses articulate, swollen to moniliform. Ascus 8 spored, clavate, 25 – 40 × 10 – 15 µm; ascospores hyaline, polaribilocular, ellipsoid to oblong, 8.2 – 12.4 × 3.4 – 6.3 µm. Chemistry: Thallus and apothecia K+ purple, C–, KC–, P–. TLC: Parietin present.
